Final Swim Meet and Party

Getting encouragement from Ainsley
Claire, our little fish, decided that she wanted to try out for the swim team here at Rosslyn at the beginning of the year. One of the great things about Rosslyn is that beginning in Preschool, students do swimming as a part of PE. If they don't know how to swim, the coaches teach them, and if they do, the coaches help them improve. They are also encouraged to try out for the swim team to compete against other schools.

Check out the determination!
Now Claire had taken lessons for a couple of years (starting with the beautiful Logan, her first teacher), but she was mainly comfortable in the water rather than swimming strokes. During tryouts last fall, the coaches pretty much just had everybody swim for as long as they could to judge their levels. Claire struggled, but she didn't give up and kept swimming even when it was obviously difficult for her. The coaches all saw her determination, and she was on the team.

Since then she has gotten so much better at swimming! She is confident, and she is learning new things every day at practice. She loves being in the water! It was natural for her to try out for Spring Swim Team in January, and she has continued to grow and improve.

The Wednesday before our Spring Break, the elementary swimmers had a last intra-squad meet and team party. We all went to cheer her on and to celebrate a successful season.

Claire's cheering squad waiting for the snacks!

Yay Claire! We are all proud of you!
